Legal Transcription Syllabus

TIME FOR COMPLETION:  300 hours (160 instruction, 140 laboratory/practicum)

ENGLISH GRAMMAR
(30 hours – 20 instruction, 10 laboratory/practicum)

• Parts of speech, sentences, subjects, predicates, objects, modifiers
• Nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, conjunctions, prepositions
• Forms of punctuation, italics, effective writing
• Multiple practice exercises to reinforce the rules of the English language are included

BUSINESS LAW
(30 hours – 20 instruction, 10 laboratory/practicum)

• Provides exposure to the types of legal problems that occur in society, in general, and in the business world, in particular
• Various areas of law will be reviewed including Contracts, Sales, Agency, and Government Regulation of labor and business
• Ethical considerations regarding the application of the principles studied will also be examined
• By the end of the course the student should be able to recognize legal problems (“spot the issues”) when they arise, determine available actions, and make an appropriate management decision
