For Coding Certification: The testing process demonstrates an individual’s skill and experience in the intricacies of both procedural and diagnostic coding systems and will have the required knowledge and skills in outpatient coding. Individuals are expected to be able to make proper code selections based on the highest degree of specificity, and understand the implications of under or over-coding. They have the skills to address complex problem sets and clarify advanced coding issues with physicians and business associates. They will have a good working knowledge of billing functions and responsibilities.
This certification includes the Billing Certification: The test is designed to represent an individual’s knowledge in the intricacies of patient billing and accounts receivable management. The knowledge should include: Medical terminology, collection and verification of patient demographic and insurance data, insurance processing, statement generation, tracking and managing and reporting receivables, and a complete understanding of patient privacy issues and the HIPAA regulations.
Eligibility
To achieve certification, an individual must have completed an educational training course in medical billing and medical coding, or have 6 months’ experience in a medical provider’s office. Med-certification’s training course will provide the six-months’ experience for this or any certification test.
Practice and Certification Testing $99: Cert-blaster (Practice): Coding and billing competency related to the coding/billing process with case scenarios and exercises on actual coding and billing. The practice test takes about an hour and simulates the type of questions that are on the certification test. The tests are on-line, take about an hour or so, are open book, and when submitted, you are provided the answers to the questions for your review and further study (if needed).
Exam-Guard (Certification) $369: The certification test takes approximately 2 hours, is timed, and you will be advised of the results within 48 hours. The test is reviewed by an instructor prior to issuing the final grade and certificate.

Certified Coding Associate (CCA)

This certification demonstrates an individual’s skill and experience in the intricacies of both procedural and diagnostic coding systems. It requires the knowledge and skill to provide a practice with outpatient coding. CCAs are expected to be able to make proper code selections based on the highest degree of specificity, and understand the implications of under or over-coding. They have the skills to address complex problem sets and clarify any coding issues with physicians and business associates. They will have a working knowledge of the billing process as it relates to the coding process.
Eligibility
To achieve certification, an individual must have completed an educational training course in medical coding, OR have had 6 months’ experience in a medical provider’s office providing coding services.
Practice and Certification Testing – Testing is done online.

Certified Health Insurance Specialist (CHIS)

Certification Test: $199.00/Practice Test $99.00
This certification represents an individual’s knowledge about all third party payer processes, rules and regulations, a good knowledge of the reimbursement process and the ability to address and reduce billing/coding errors, file appeals, and submit and resubmit claims. A knowledge of coding and billing is required. The individual must also understand how to contribute to the accounts receivable management function in a provider office. Note: Do not apply for this certification if you are seeking BILLING certification since the Health Insurance Specialist is included in the CBS certification process.

To achieve certification, an individual must have completed an educational training course in medical billing, which includes health insurance claims processing, or have 6 months’ experience in a provider’s office (with verification of training/or experience).

Certified Legal Transcriptionist (CLT)

CLTs are expected to have a working knowledge of the law and its specialties, court system document requirements, format rules for legal documents, captions, headings, and the ability to transcribe dictation including cases, correspondence, trial briefs, hearings, depositions, and other types of testimony. Good skills in word processing (file and e-file management, macros), legal terminology, and ability to do law-related including Internet research.
Eligibility
To achieve certification, an individual must have completed an educational training course (a minimum of 100 hours) or have 1 year of experience in a legal office providing similar services through on-the-job training (with verification of training/or experience).

Certified Medical Billing Specialist (CBS)

Certification Test/Practice Test
This certification represents an individual’s knowledge in the intricacies of patient billing and accounts receivable management. Candidates must also know how coding works and its impact on the billing process. The knowledge should include: Medical terminology, collection and verification of patient demographic and insurance data, insurance processing, statement generation, tracking and managing and reporting receivables, complete understanding of patient privacy issues and the related law. A good working knowledge of various billing functions and responsibilities is necessary. Note: CBS includes Health Insurance Specialist Testing (HIS) so do not order HIS separately.

Certified Medical Office Manager (CMOM)

CMOMs are able to initiate policies and protocols that will improve, protect and stabilize the financial security of the practice. They help guard the practice against risks, and motivate employees to improve productivity and increase revenue. Certified Medical Transcription – (MTC)

The certification demonstrates the MTC has a very good knowledge of medical terminology, including broad-based hospital and clinical, specialty medicine, surgery, laboratory, and pharmacy. The individual must have 1000 hours of medical transcription practice either in training or on the job.
Eligibility:
An individual must have completed an educational program or have comparable experience in the field on the job.

Certified Paralegal (CPL)

CPLs are expected to have a good working knowledge of the law, including its specialties, how a law office functions, the rules and regulations, civil litigation, interviewing, writing, research and citation, and competence in law library and/or on-line research skills. A CPL should be able to initiate any kind of legal action, with a knowledge of the forms and pleadings required, including the management of a lawsuit from start to finish.

ICD-10 Certification
The ICD-10 certification demonstrates the individual’s knowledge of the new ICD-10 codes to be fully implemented under the new HCFA and World Health Organization (WHO) mandates. ICD-10 coders are expected to be able to make proper code selections based on the highest degree of specificity employing the new and expanded coding system. The certification is designed for experienced coders who require training in the new coding protocols.
Eligibility
To achieve certification, an individual must have completed an educational training course either formal or on the job in ICD-10 coding with and 6 months’ experience in a medical provider’s office as a coder.

Medication Aide-Certified (MA-C)
Review, Practice and Test:
First step is to review the functions and responsibilities. The entire process is designed to demonstrates an individual’s skill and experience as a medication aide or medical technician dealing with the distribution of patient medications in nursing homes, schools, correctional facilities or non-hospital assisted-living facilities. Medication aides usually are directly supervised by doctors or other licensed caretakers. Aides have experience in assisting patients in properly dispensing and taking oral, topical or intravenous medications in correct dosages in accordance to strict medical protocol.
The knowledge background must include pharmaceutical products, reactions, interactions and effectiveness. They must know the correct provision of medication via various methods, as well as eye and ear drops, use of inhalers, nebulizers, infusions, and tubes, as well as observe medication reactions, and understand the strict record-keeping process. An aide typically will measure patient vital signs, blood pressure, temperature respiration, and heart rate, and fully understand emergency situations and responses.
Eligibility
To achieve certification, an individual must have completed an educational training course for Medications Aide, or have 6 months’ experience in a provider setting. Additionally, the applicant must have
- Worked for pay as a medications aide
- Been supervised by a nurse or other qualified supervisor
- Worked at least a minimum of 8 hours within the past 24 months
Medication Aide Certificate Review:
The test preparation and testing itself are provided in this program. Applicants will review the Medication Aide Certification Exam test prep prior to undertaking the testing itself. 25 CEUs are granted for the Prep Test Review. Successful test scores will provide the applicant with a MA-C (Medical Aide-Certified).
Note: Many states have varying regulations on certifying so check with your state to see if it is required. Most states will accept the Med-Certification MA-CertificationTest Prep and Exam-Guard (Certification) $389: The test prep takes about 40 hours and the certification test approximately 2 hours. Applicants are advised of the test results within 48 hours.
